Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is designed for individuals aged 16 and up, catering to both total beginners and those looking to ride a 125cc motorcycle or scooter. The CBT certificate remains valid for a two-year period from the date of completion and can be renewed when still in date or on the date of expiry; if it expires, you'll need to retake the course.
Completing CBT is not only a prerequisite for obtaining a full motorcycle license, but also allows you to operate a 50cc scooter starting at age 16, or a 125cc motorcycle from age 17 onward. However, it's important to note that you must still display 'L' plates and are not permitted to use motorways or carry a passenger.
The CBT course includes:
Introductory talk
Practical on-site training
Practical on-site riding
Discussion on practical road riding
Minimum of 2 hours of road training
Training is from 9 a.m. (please arrive 10 minutes beforehand to complete paperwork) and can normally be completed in one day or as part of the Full Licence training.
The CBT course is priced at £190 per day, which includes training, motorcycle rental, safety gear, comprehensive insurance, and fuel costs. For those opting to renew their CBT and use their own motorcycle, the fee stands at £150. (The current CBT certificate will need to be shown on the day).
Each full-day session is designed for optimal learning, with no more than two riders assigned to a single instructor on the roads. For availability and reservations, please visit our booking page.
