What you need to know

The emergence of electric urban mobility vehicles has introduced a level of complexity regarding licensing—it's not as straightforward as obtaining a driving licence. However, we've streamlined the process to make it simpler.

  1. E-bike

E-bike standard electric bikes require no licence and may only have "twist and go" power up to 3.7mph. Minimum age of 14. These can use cycle lanes like a non-electric bike.

2. E-bike Speed Pedelec

Speed Pedelecs are electrically assisted bikes that are more powerful and can assist up to 28mph, taking them into Moped class legally and requiring DVLA registration for road use. They can not be used in cycle lanes.

Top Speed: 28mph (Assisted)

Motor: Electric Pedal Assist

Licence required: CBT or full car licence before 1st Feb 2001 50cc

3. Electric Mopeds
